Eight people required hospital treatment, with one woman left in a serious condition.

Injuries sustained included head wounds, fractured fingers, deep cuts, and cervical injuries.

The pilot reportedly saw thick cloud as the flight, returning from Lamezia Terme, Italy, prepared to land.

He then switched on the ‘Fasten seatbelts’ sign on and made an announcement in German and English warning passengers of the conditions.

Aviation24.be reported that some passengers did not have their seatbelts on during the turbulence.

Emergency services, including a fire brigade and ambulance, were waiting for the plane when it landed to provide assistance.

Those passengers that did not require attention were taken to the terminal.

The seriously injured woman is not thought to be in a life-threatening condition.
